Genus Information

Anthurium is a genus of over 1000 species of plants, also know as the flamingo flower or laceleaf and are available in a wide range of colours. They are distributed across Central America and the Caribbean and can be found as far south as Argentina. The flowers on this plant are on the fleshy spike emerging from the top of the colourful bract which is a type of modified leaf. If cared for well these plants can flower regularly through the year.

Light requirements

Anthurium andraeanum 'Prince of Orange' prefers bright indirect light.

Watering requirements

Allow the top inch or so of the soil to dry out between watering through Spring and Summer, increase time between watering slightly through summer months.

Humidity requirements

Anthurium prefer high humidity and warm spot free from draughts. Either place in a bathroom or kitchen or mist occasionally to help it stay healthy.


Growth

The Flamingo Flower reaches heights of up to 0.5-1m but is a slow grower.

Origin

Originally native to South America.

Flowering

Anthurium stay in flower for up to 3 months and will reflower with proper care. This cultivar produces Orange 'flowers'. Cut away fading flowers to encourage new growth.

Foliage

Anthurium andraeanum 'Prince of Orange' has attractive upright green foliage, however the leaves are considered toxic so keep away from pets and children.
