Summary

Most garden lupins that you see today are desceded from the Russell Hybrids that were bred in the early 20th century. Over several decades George Russell turned the plain coloured disparate flowers into a wide range of densely packed flower heads and built the foundation of the range of lupins we see today. Also noted for their ability to improve poor soils, they don't thrive in rich soils and may only last a few years if planted there. Available in a wide range of colours from their original blues and purples all the way through to reds, yellows and white.
