Description
An Intersectional Peony, also known as an 'Itoh' peony, is a hybrid type of peony that results from crossing a herbaceous peony with a tree peony. These hybrids combine the best characteristics of both parents, resulting in plants with large, showy flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer, and have a longer bloom time than either of the parents. The foliage is green and glossy and the stems are thicker, more sturdy and woodier than the herbaceous peonies, making them less susceptible to wind damage. They are also less cold-sensitive than tree peonies. They are long-lived, hardy, and easy to care for, making them a popular choice for gardens. They can be used in the same way as herbaceous peonies, they can be planted in borders, mixed with other perennials, or as specimen plants.
