Description
Papaver orientale, commonly known as Oriental poppy, is a stunning herbaceous perennial plant that produces large, showy flowers in shades of red, orange, pink, and white. The flowers, which can reach up to 6 inches in diameter, have distinctive black blotches at the base of the petals, giving them a dramatic look. The plant grows up to 3 feet tall and has deeply cut, hairy foliage that adds texture and interest to the garden even when the plant is not in bloom. Papaver orientale prefers full sun and well-drained soil, making it ideal for planting in a sunny border or rock garden. It pairs well with other perennials such as salvia, peonies, and iris, and can also be combined with ornamental grasses to create a stunning display.
