Soil Requirements

Rubus idaeus 'Alpengold' is a versatile plant and can cope with wet or drier soils, but prefers there to be decent drainage. This plant is not tolerant of alkaline soil, it requires either a neutral or acidic soil to grow.

Best Position

Rubus idaeus 'Alpengold' prefers a sheltered position and can cope with either full sun or partial shade.

Maintenance

Rubus idaeus 'Alpengold' should be cut back with all mature fruited canes pruned to ground level in February, this will encourage new growth to come through and this growth will then produce fruit in Autumn. Then in Summer thin canes to around 10cm apart if the plant is becoming too crowded.

Rubus idaeus 'Alpengold' can have problems with aphids, beetles and mites, and it tends not to have problems with diseases. It is also known to attract bees and other pollinators. It is not considered to be toxic.
