Description

Sollya heterophylla, commonly known as the bluebell creeper or Australian bluebell, is a vigorous, evergreen climber that produces masses of beautiful blue, bell-shaped flowers from summer to autumn. It's native to Australia and can grow up to 1.8 meters tall in the right conditions. The leaves are bright green, narrow and slightly pointed, adding to the plant's overall delicate appearance. Bluebell creeper is often grown as a wall climber, but can also be trained as a standard or grown in a large container. It prefers a sheltered, sunny spot and well-drained soil.

Soil Requirements

Sollya heterophylla is a versatile plant and can cope with wet or drier soils, but prefers there to be decent drainage. This plant can grow in soil with a wide range of pH levels, it is not picky about the pH level of the soil.

Best Position

Sollya heterophylla prefers a sheltered position and can cope with either full sun or partial shade.

Maintenance

Sollya heterophylla should be pruned anually in early Spring. Sideshoots should be cut back to within 3 to 4 buds of the main branch structure of the plant. Any old or damaged main stems can be cut back to the base, these steps will help promote more flowers towards the main body of the plant.
