Description

Clematis ‘Blue Angel’, also known as Blekitny Aniol, is a prolific flowering vine that produces hundreds of pastel blue flowers from June to September. The flower size is around 5-7.5 cm in diameter. This cultivar can be grown in a pot or in the ground and is a popular choice for adding color and interest to gardens or landscapes. Clematis ‘Blue Angel’ was bred by Brother Stefan Franczak, a monk who has been a gardener at the Jesuit Theological College in Warsaw for over 50 years. It was awarded the ‘Award of Garden Merit’ by the RHS in 2002.

Soil Requirements

Clematis ‘Blue Angel’ prefers moist but well-draining soil. This plant is not tolerant of acidic soil, it requires either a neutral or alkaline soil to grow.

Best Position

Clematis ‘Blue Angel’ can handle either an exposed or a sheltered position and can cope with either full sun or partial shade.

Maintenance

Clematis ‘Blue Angel’is a late flowering Clematis which blooms on growth produced that growing season, so are best to be pruned in early Spring as this gives them plenty of time to produce lots of growth which will eventually lead to lots of flowers. If pruning is neglected the flowers will appear higher and higher on the plant over time. They should be pruned back to the lowest sideshoots from the base.

Clematis ‘Blue Angel’ can have problems with aphids, snails and caterpillars., it can be vulnerable to certain diseases such as clematis wilt. It is toxic to cats, dogs and horses.
