Genus Information
Dypsis is a genus of evergreen palms native to areas along the Indian Ocean with some naturalized in the Caribbean. The most common species sold as houseplants is Dypsis lutescens which is also commonly referred to as Areca lutescens and the areca palm or butterfly palm.

Light requirements
Dypsis lutescens prefers bright indirect sunlight.
Watering requirements
The Areca Palm likes its soil to remain moist between watering, so if you notice it beginning to dry out you should give it a bit of water.
Humidity requirements
Dypsis lutescens prefer higher humidity, therefore it will appreciate an occasional misting in drier locations.

Can reach heights of up to 2 metres
Origin
Originally native to Madagascar.
Flowering
The Areca palm does not produce flowers when grown indoors.
Foliage
This palm has classic foliage shape with large fronds coming from multiple stems. The curved, flowing leaves are what give it its other nickname of Butterfly Palm. The palm is considered non-toxic. Dried out fronds can be removed when necessary.
