Description
Blechnum spicant is often referred to as Struthipteris spicant and was also formerly placed in the genus Osmunda. Like many ferns it likes a nice shaded spot and can likes to remain moist, able to handle poorly-draining soils. It has two different fronds that are produced with erect fertile fronds and sterile fronds that spread close to the ground.

Blechnum spicant prefers moist but well-draining soil. This plant is not tolerant of alkaline soil, it requires either a neutral or acidic soil to grow.
Best Position
Blechnum spicant can handle either an exposed or a sheltered position and is perfect for darker areas of your garden it likes either full or partial shade.
Maintenance
Blechnum spicant is fairly low maintenance and doesn’t require any pruning. Although to keep an attractive plant you should look for any damaged fronds and remove them when necessary, this won’t harm the plant.
